This workshop is a basic introduction to Self-Defense, as opposed to Martial-Arts. We will focus on the psychological aspects of self-defense, debunking myths about self-defense, and developing practical skills for dealing with and avoiding violence in the real world. We will also focus on topics not typically covered or under-emphasized in martial arts training, such as awareness and avoidance.
This class is intended as a primer, not a full course of instruction. A little knowledge or misinformation can be very dangerous in the context of self-defense, and our goal is to correct many popular misconceptions while giving a few simple tools to keep students safe. Students of the intro class will receive a discount on the full self-defense course offered later this summer.
All are welcome: there are no age or experience requirements. However, in the spirit of Mother's Day, we are encouraging mothers and daughters to attend together.
The proceeds of this event will go to Between Friends Chicago, a local non-profit organization devoted to breaking the cycle of domestic violence, and building a community free of abuse.
